Changes to the Fichier central des sinistres automobiles (FCSA)
FCSA is the database which tracks any claims you've made over the past six
years. Insurers use it to determine the risk you represent as a driver. An
important change was made to the FCSA effective April 1, 2009. Accidents are
now attributed only to the 'custodian' of the vehicle at the time of the
accident. The custodian is the person who was driving the vehicle when the
accident occurred or, in the case of an accident without a driver, the person
who had physical custody of the damaged vehicle.

Insurance and moving
You've been renovating your new home and realize you can't move in all your
belongings in one go. You have two choices. One option is to spread out your
move over several days. In this case, you should look into whether your
contents are insured at both locations. A number of policies cover all your
belongings during transportation and give you a 30-day period to complete your
move. Your other option is to warehouse your belongings. You should know that,
in this case, your insurance policy does not cover you if your belongings are
stolen. However, if you were to suffer another type of loss, for example a
fire, your policy would cover no more than 10% of the amount written for your
personal belongings. For example, if your belongings are covered for $25,000,
you are entitled to a maximum indemnity of $2,500. Find out whether the owner
of the warehouse has insurance that would protect you in case of theft. If not,
you could look into additional coverage.

Fireworks
Summer is a great time to have fun and some of you will want to celebrate with
fireworks. Before you do, make sure you follow the safety rules to avoid an
unfortunate accident. To start with, take the time to read the instructions.
Fireworks should only be used outside in an exposed location. Also, keep
spectators at least 20 metres away and have a bucket of water or a hose handy.
