Adding your child to your policy

Your 17-year old daughter has started to drive. Whether she has a learner's licence, a probationary licence or a Class 5 driver's licence, you must inform your agent or broker immediately.

Five factors affect the premium

  1. What car you drive
  2. Who drives the car (principal and occasional driver)
  3. What you use the car for
  4. Where you live and use your vehicle
  5. What coverage you choose

Modifying your policy

Your child may be considered an occasional driver under an insurance policy. It's therefore necessary to add him or her to your policy. Your agent or broker can confirm the additional premium, if applicable. You and your child are thus adequately covered and you'll avoid nasty surprises in case of an accident.

Don't wait for the renewal date to modify your policy. Call your agent or broker as soon as your child starts to take driving lessons.
