Access to Home Insurance
Home Insurance: It's a Matter of Choice
Although there is no legal obligation to have home insurance - consumers are free to decide whether or not purchase this type of insurance - the Insurance Information Centre administers an Access to Home Insurance mechanism to help consumers who have tried but were unable to find home insurance.
Having Trouble Getting Insurance?
To benefit from Insurance Information Centre's free assistance service, you must first have tried to obtain insurance from several insurers or brokers, and demonstrate that you have been unable to find insurance. You can then contact an agent at the Insurance Information Centre.
You can reach the Insurance Information Centre Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at:
514 288-4321 (Montréal area)
1 877 288-4321 (Elsewhere in Québec)

It should be noted that, in the case where insurance has been refused on account of a false declaration (when signing the policy or making a claim), fraud or a criminal act, the Information Centre will not intervene.
