Moving

Contact your insurer

You’ve just rented a new apartment! You’ll be planning your move, once you’ve signed the lease. Before you start packing, call your insurer to make sure your belongings are insured.

The property inventory

Take a few minutes to make a property inventory.

Let your insurer know when you’ll be moving. He’ll ask you questions about your new apartment. He’ll need to know its features so that he can update your file. The cost of your home insurance could change, either up or down.

This is also a good time to reassess whether you’ve got sufficient coverage. You may have taken this opportunity to buy new furniture. You should also take a close look at coverage amounts to make sure you’re covered in your new location.

Are you moving in with your new partner? Adjust the coverage amount to reflect the combined value of your possessions. And don’t forget to put your home insurance policy in both your names!
