FCSA - Your insurance claims record
Your insurance company takes the time to assess your driving history. In doing so, it consults your record in the Fichier central des sinistres automobiles (FCSA), a claim tracking database that you too can consult.
- The FCSA is a central register that contains records of any automobile claims you have made over the past six years for collision, theft, broken windshield, etc.
- Insurers consult the FCSA to determine your level of risk as a driver.
- Do you have a spotless driving record? Then you are sure to get a preferred rate. Insurers reward clients with no claims in their file.
- However, if you have just made your fifth claim in three years, you represent a higher risk and your insurance premium could well indicate this.
- The FCSA reflects the wish expressed by policyholders that drivers who are involved in a number of accidents should pay higher premiums than those who are not.
- The relevance of the FCSA, which was created in the early 1990s, affirms a desire for fairer premiums, i.e., premiums that are based on the real risk which each insured represents.
- It should be noted that, in the past, insurers found it very difficult to obtain the claims experience of their new clients effectively and fairly, in order to set a premium that reflected their risk of having an accident.
