Access to Car Insurance... For All!
The Insurance Information Centre offers guidance and assistance to consumers who are having difficulty getting car insurance. According to the Automobile Insurance Act, anyone who owns and operates a vehicle in Québec must have at least $50,000 in civil liability insurance to guarantee compensation for any property damage the vehicle might cause.
By following a uniform and rigorous procedure, which is known as the Access to Auto Insurance Mechanism, the Information Centre agent can help make arrangements to provide the consumer with insurance, under terms that are acceptable to both parties. Through the Information Centre, the consumer benefits from a mechanism that allows him or her to obtain insurance and thus, to comply with legislation.
Having trouble finding insurance?
To benefit from this free assistance service, you must first have tried to obtain insurance from several insurers or brokers, and demonstrate that you have been unable to find insurance. You can then contact an agent at the Insurance Information Centre.
You can reach the Insurance Information Centre Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
